The viking age in Ireland ended in the early 11:th century. But they left there mark on Ireland.

They took part in internal Irish wars and made Ireland a centre of trad in Europe. They also introduced the use of money and had a great influence on things like art, language, folklore and place names.

The battle of Clontarf on good friday 1014 effectively marked the end of two eras, one was the reign of terror of the vikings and two was the reign of the first true King of all Ireland "Brian Boru".

The norsemen were there after considered subordinate to the kings of Ireland and were no longer regarded as a threat, they were relegated to there cities in Cork, Waterford, Wexford, Limerick and Dublin. And it was only in these places that they were able to retain some degree of autonomy.

After some time so many norsemen had married Gaels that in effect they became Gaels (Irish) themselves...
